On Monday 18th June, SLS will be holding their annual Carnegie & Kate Greenaway (CKG) Children's Book Awards lunch. Every year, children from participating schools are invited to come along to the Guille-Allès Library to discuss the shortlisted titles, find out the highly anticipated winners and enjoy some lunch together.
This year the Greenaway shortlist (for excellence in children's picture books) includes some books that aren't suitable for younger readers. Therefore here at SLS, we have come up with our own shortlists for KS1 and KS2 (picked from the official longlist) for children to discuss in groups at school over the coming weeks.
The Carnegie Medal is awarded by children's librarians for outstanding books written for young people. Book groups throughout the island's secondary schools look at the shortlisted titles and again, students are invited to join us at the event to see who has won the prestigious award.
This year's shortlisted titles are as follows:
Kate Greenaway Medal

Storm Whale by Sarah Brennan

A Child of Books by Oliver Jeffers
